A set of 6 Jason Chairs by Carl Jacobs
Produced by Kandya
Original
Held in the V&A collection in South Kensington London and featured in its recent show plywood: Material of the modern world, this lightweight, stackable, chair with gently tapering, splayed wooden legs are typical of the language of Danish designers of the period. The seat and back of the chair are beautifully sculpted and folded from a single sheet of flexible veneered plywood that wraps around the chair and joins below the seat in an expressive, though functional, jigsaw puzzle type connection. Principally designed for domestic use, the Jason chair was in continuous production for almost twenty years, with metal legs on later versions as an option. At the Festival of Britain in 1951 three hundred were installed at the South Bank Restaurant.
